Five Quick Lipstick Tips

Moisturise

Moisturise your lips before applying lipstick to prevent feathering and bleeding. Banish dry lips with a good lip balm or light touch of coconut oil.

No Filler needed

Many of us women from African ancestry were blessed with beautiful big lips that people are now paying lots of money for. To get the fuller look without any needles apply lip liner just outside of your natural lip line, then fill in with your lipstick of choice.

Lipstick on Teeth

To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth after applying, put your index finger in your mouth and pull it out. Any excess lipstick will end up on your finger and thankfully not your pearly whites.

Double Duty

Need some rosy cheeks but run out of blush? Lipstick can be used as a blush. Let’s not go for a Halloween look with a black lipstick, but if you have a neutral or pink shade dab a few dots on your cheeks and blend away to get the perfect look.

Pick the Right Shade

Choose the right shade of lipstick for your skin tone. At Dark Secrets Cosmetics we have shades to flatter every skin tone and help you look your absolute best. Shop here. https://darksecretscosmetics.com/shop/ Lipsticks on sale for a limited time.

Add some sparkle

Add some sparkle wherever you go, let the people you encounter feel your radiant glow. Follow these quick tips to keep shining like the star you already are!

Add a highlighter

Add a highlighter to your makeup routine. Think of a newspaper. When reading a long article, you notice the words in bold print or that are highlighted and that is exactly what a good highlighter should do. Put a shining light on the beauty that is already there. You can add highlighter just above your cheekbones below the eyes, on the bridge of your nose, above and below the lips. You can also add highlighter to your collarbones and shoulders for those cute summer tops that show off your decolletage. You will be photo shoot ready as you step out of the front door.

Light a candle

As it flickers, think of being that same vessel of light in the world. No matter how dark the night, the sun always comes out in the morning. Take some time to be still and meditate. It doesn’t have to be long, just enough time to escape the rat race, relax your body and your mind. Nourish your spirit with calm.

Breathe

Take a deep breath and count to three. As you exhale think happy thoughts, focus on all the thing you are grateful for in life. Radiate that positive energy as you go about your daily endeavours. You will attract the same positive energy and sprinkle a trail of stardust whenever you walk away.

Lipstick on, Ready to Go

Bringing about change doesn’t come easy. Be ready to face the naysayers looking your best. You will have that star quality with a new Dark Secrets Cosmetics Lipstick. It’s suitable for all skin tones and adds the perfect amount of sparkle.

Inside and Out

Your beauty routine doesn’t have to break the bank. There is always a new lotion or potion on the market promising to take ten years off our faces and make us look ten pounds thinner by the break of dawn. If only there was such a miracle cure. Here are three natural products that have stood the test of time. They are beneficial both on the inside and out, you can use them on your skin, your hair or in the kitchen at mealtimes.

Olive Oil

Olive oil has been used as a beauty treatment since the days of Cleopatra. It contains powerful antioxidants to help fight off free radicals.

For the hair: It is a rich emollient that can help to condition dry hair and add shine. For a hot oil treatment, heat 1/2 cup of olive oil gently in a pan, massage the oil onto your hair and scalp, leave on for 30 minutes and rinse out.

For the skin: Olive oil also makes a great makeup remover, dip a cotton ball or pad in olive oil and use it to wipe off your makeup, it will also moisturise your skin as you sleep and you will wake up the next morning with a healthy glow.

For Lunch or Dinner: You can use olive oil to saute vegetables or drizzle over potatoes before roasting.

Coconut Oil

This great multipurpose oil is chock-full of vitamins and essential fatty acids.

For the hair: To hydrate dry hair, rub two tablespoons of coconut oil onto dry or damp hair. Leave on overnight and rinse out in the morning.

For the skin: Coconut oil is great as an all over body moisturiser. It can be used on its own or mixed with your favourite body lotion, your skin will be gleaming and you’ll smell as sweet as a pina colada.

For Breakfast: Add a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil to your coffee or hot chocolate. It will make your beverage extra creamy, whilst speeding up your metabolism at the same time.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw apple cider vinegar with the mother (unrefined, unpasteurized and unfiltered) has an abundance of nutrients.

For the hair: To clarify your hair and remove product build up add 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a cup of (preferably) filtered water. After shampooing, saturate your hair with the mixture, leave on for five minutes and rinse out. Your hair will be squeaky clean with great shine.

For the skin: To remove excess oils on your face and balance the ph of your skin, an apple cider vinegar mix can be used as a toner. Add 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a cup of filtered water, after washing your face, use a cotton pad to lightly rub the toner on your face and neck. For sensitive skin do a patch test first to see how your skin responds.

For Lunch or Dinner: Make a tasty salad dressing by combining apple cider vinegar with olive oil, a dash of salt and pepper or seasonings of your choice.

There are three great uses for three great products to help you get more bang for your buck. Take care of yourself on the inside and out and put that money to good use. Pick up a new Dark Secrets lipstick here  https://darksecretscosmetics.com/shop/  Beauty that can’t be duplicated.

Times may be rough, but your lips look fab.

Bills bills bills. Not opening them doesn’t make them go away. You can use them as your cat litter but rest assured, they will send out a new assortment just in time for that litter to be replaced. Then as soon as you struggle to pay off one credit card bill your car needs a major repair. Such is life. However there is one item that even when things are looking bleak, you don’t want to avoid. Lipstick. Yes even when there is a recession, many women won’t go without it. It won’t put a huge hit on your finances and is sure to boost your mood. Rather than splurge on those designer shoes you can barely walk in that are sure to give you blisters and then languish in the back of your closet collecting dust. Treat yourself to a new lipstick. That pop of colour on the lips has an instant effect. Things are looking up. You’re ready to take on the day. Looking your best. Go for it.

Beauty tips for melanin rich women

Over the years I have struggled to find makeup for women with darker skin tones. All you saw in beauty magazines were fair skinned or mixed race gorgeous looking women. I rarely saw women who looked liked me gracing the covers of the beauty magazines. It made me wonder what it was about melanin rich women. Were we not considered beautiful? Why weren’t we getting the attention we deserved? However this is changing and nowadays, I am proud to see beautiful dark skinned women are more heavily featured on magazine covers and on the runway. Embrace your dusky complexion and here are some amazing beauty tips to keep you “cover girl” ready and on top of your game!

petroleum jelly application

1.) Moisturise daily
Dark skin not adequately moisturised can look ashy and grey. A famous dermatologist once told me, “Petroleum Jelly is still the best moisturiser for dark skin.” This can be heavy so use sparingly and apply a thin layer for a healthy glowing effect.

2.) Hand hygiene
We live in a bacteria filled world. It is important to have excellent hand hygiene so germs are not ingested and or passed on to our skin which is the largest organ.

waterhands

3.) Foundation – Match your foundation to your skin undertone. A lot of dark skinned women wear foundation that does not match their skin undertone. The trick to knowing you have chosen the correct foundation is when it blends perfectly with your skin tone. Check out my post about knowing your skin undertone.

4.) Lipstick – Choose Lipstick that complements your skin undertone. Try to avoid lipstick that creates too much contrast to your skin tone for example bright pink. Wear dark colours. Check out Dark Secrets Cosmetics stunning lipstick collection.

5.) Eye shadows – Use dark eye shadows that blend beautifully with dark skin. After all makeup should enhance your best features and down play the rest. The best colours for melanin rich women are greens, burgundy, gold, copper, natural deep browns and so on. Smokey eyes are simply stunning on dusky skin.

Above all love yourself. There is no other person as unique as you so look in the mirror and be proud of who and what you are!

Win in Life

The World Cup is well underway. It is such a magical time as rival teams come together and we all route for our fellow countrymen to succeed.
Whether your National team is in or out here are some tips to keep the spirit alive and win in the game of life.

Worry less, laugh more. Worrying will not make your problems go away but laughing can lower stress levels. Laugh away.

Offer to help. Lend a helping hand and help others when you can, even if they can’t repay the favour, somewhere down the line you will get help when you need it to.

Read the fine print. Before you sign your life away, know what you are getting yourself into. Always proceed with caution before signing on the dotted line.

Love is the way. Live each day with a grateful heart that is overjoyed and overflowing with love.

Dance. Turn the music up and dance like you just won the mirrorball trophy.

Care about your body. It’s your temple, be mindful of what you put in it.

Understand it won’t always be easy, but there are brighter days ahead.

Prioritise. There are 1440 minutes in a day, use them wisely. How many minutes do you spend scrolling through the pages of other people’s picture perfect lives?
Grab a paintbrush and create a masterpiece of your own.

Don’t forget your lipstick. As you go out to conquer the world pick a shade here Dark Secrets Cosmetics shop

The Eagles fell

Sometimes you have to want it badly to win. The World Cup is the highlight of the summer this year.
Those of us that are footie fans are supporting our teams and wanting them to do well. In my case
I am supporting two teams. The team from my native land Nigeria and homeland England.

When teams are playing I am a shouter and this annoys my children who are very typical young English
men with poker faces when watching a game of football. Well, today Argentina played Nigeria and won
by the skin of their teeth. As the saying goes, the winner takes it all. The game was gripping and I was
enthralled with skills demonstrated by both teams. About 20 minutes into the first half of the game
Argentina scored a goal by Messi. Ever the optimist, I thought the game will pick up pace and Nigeria
will be able to showcase their skills and tenacity. I was not disappointed a penalty levelled the score
and Nigeria needed to just hold their own to draw with Argentina.

Unfortunately, Argentina took the lead by securing another goal just before the final whistle.
This sealed the fate of my native land, they are out of the World Cup.

I was disappointed and deflated after the game. The Eagles fell but with pride. They played well against
a very experienced team. They presented Nigeria well and showed good sportsmanship.

Dark Secrets Cosmetics was inspired by my native land. It is important to never forget where you come
from so you do not forget where you are going. To celebrate Eagles victorious loss at my local pub, I put
my face on completed with my favourite Dark Secrets Cosmetics lipstick Violet and stepped out after all
my other team still have a chance of winning. Here, here to England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 we are in it to win it!
